Well, I must say I am impressed. With my first character, I never did a mission without at least one person I knew: my husband, another friend or guildie.
You must have had great luck and good communication. I know there are good PUGs out there, but wading through the bad… I applaud you again for your patience and perseverance.

I did, actually. This was loooooong before I joined a guild and had any friends to play with on a regular basis. And I finished all the PVE missions start to finish in PUGs ... as a mesmer primary.
(Masochist or glutton for punishment? Same difference, really.)

I did all the missions and trips with PUG's. Well most of it. There were a few were some guildies helped out. I find it more enjoying, even though sometimes you want to stab someone for being stupid and wondering how they got this far playing like that.

Did most of the mission with random groups...as a Necro/Mes SS. Had lots of fun doing it, and no one really complained about me. I learned fast but now more frequently play the role of the healer in the upper levels.

Off-topic but yeah me too, was in a solo guild until I joined a proper one just recently. Did all the missions with PUG and most of the quests with just henchies...a sad little life I lead

Well I have just experienced a jerk. Not meaning to stereotype warriors, but in the last few attempts I have had at Thirsty River, they have either left during the game, or run in to trouble. (p.s. this topic makes for a great stress relief )
I was ingame with 5 others, and the first problem started arrising when the guy (who's name I wont repeat) started running into loads of scorpions, even after the sand giants were killed.
So we kill the first team and everything seems to be ok. Then we went to the second team. The very first thing he did, rather than hang left and take the nearest few out, he went straight in between the two teams, making sure he attracted the attention of all the enemies - so we literally had to battle 10 or so enemies at once rather than about 4.
Now by some absolute miracle, we lived. Because he was so intent on fighting, he had forgotten they would only ressurect, and they did, but we just managed to fight them off. So after that, most people down 3/4 of there health, the agreed plan is to stay in the safe area and regen - not if he had anything to do with it. I told him to stay back from the second group or he will get us all killed.
He responded 'only u died' (in the first battle) to which I replied something along the lines of 'because you attracted far more attention than necessesary'.
So here we are, most people just 1/4 of health left, still recovering, and him, being the seemingly little kid who just wants to attack things, forgets about the team's health and forgets about the enemy res time, and runs in to a bunch of enemies. At this point, after having 10 or so attempts at this mission, I am getting quite frustrated at this time and I say 'well now you've got us all killed' and his response was 'stfu' 'you talk too much'.
Now by some absolute miracle......3 players survive (including the idiot who generated all the monsters attention in the first place). Trouble is, no one has res signet, so we failed. But him being the warrior kiddo who just wants to fight things decided to run off into the next part of area (with 3 groups), run into a bunch of monsters and just start fighting.
Its a shame really. Even with a really good team, the mission is hard enough, let alone having leavers and people who deliberately generate attention.
..........and relax

I had one during the wintersday festival. In LA where you would collect the presents and get them to the child before the grentches would destroy it, there was a bug that had the grentches stuck behind a sign so there was no way for them to get the presents. This one guy figured out that if you did not give the present to a child then no more presents would spawn. He just ran around bragging that he had the only present. Great holiday spirit.

54 pages? Must be a lot of jerks out there. I'm glad I've only encountered a few. My pet gripe lately is the runners who don't bother to mention that they intend to run it (no matter what you had in mind) until you spawn into your instance, and proceed to do exactly that even when you beg for fighting instead. What a waste of time.

That's easily dealt with. Since they're not fighting, you're not really needed (Unless you're the one they expect to run for them - LOL), so just leave. But it's always best to be absolutely clear on what the plan of action is before entering the mission. I don't know how many times I've been grouped up with at PUG specifically with the understanding that we'd be doing the bonus before starting, but when it comes time to GET the bonus in the mission, they all decide they don't want it! I may sound like a jerk on this point, but I remind them that we agreed on doing the bonus, and that if we don't, I'm leaving. Most of the time we do the bonus, especially when I'm the Monk! The times that they (and it's usually only 1 or 2 in the party) insist on skipping it, I leave. (I'd never bail on a team after doing the bonus if that's all I personally wanted to do & someone else needs the mission)

Gee... I wonder how he got to level 20 w/o realising what the abbrevation "char" means or that ppl can use more than 1 character in the game. How could someone not have such basic knowledge at such a level? /ponder

Meanest thing I ever did, was convince people in LA that Demonic Remains could be used to "summon undead pets". I convinced ONE level 20 W/Mo (He DID have an attitude problem, which helped my conscience somewhat), who proceeded to give me his whole armour set for ONE.
God, I'm a mean guy...

Couple of the bonuses are missing, but that's how I got my mes. through the game, completly random groups, got as far as doing the first of the defend whatever quests before realising, great northern wall isn't on my map for unknown reasons... it's since been done.
